How to travel to Vietnam?

Flights to Vietnam
Vietnam Airlines, you can book at www.VietnamAirlines.Travel run many flights from USA, UE, Asia, Ocean Continental to Ha Noi and Ho Chi Minh City. Flights to Vietnam are at their most expensive during Christmas, New Year and Tet (m/m).

Air notes:
A new international terminal was opened in Ho Chi Minh City in 2007, but a plan has been approved for the city which has the Tan Son Nhat airport to serve mainly for domestic flights.

Flight time:
London to Hanoi takes about 17 hours, and 20 hours from Los Angeles.

Departure tax:
Included in the ticket price

Travel by rail
It is possible to cross over into Vietnam from China by rail from Beijing - Dong Dang - Hanoi and back. Contact Vietnam Railways (tel: (04) 3942 3949; www.vr.com.vn) for more details.

A very useful number in Vietnam is 1080, where operators can speak English to provide information about schedules.

Driving to Vietnam
There are many routes to China through Lang Son, Mong Cai & Lao Cai, to Cambodia through Moc Bai and Xaxia and to Laos via Lao Bao, Na Meo, or Tay Trang.

There is a regular bus service from Phnom Penh, Cambodia, operated by Saigon Passenger Transport (tel: (08) 3920 3623; www.saigonbus.com.vn). There are the bus services from Vientiane, Laos, Hanoi and Savannakhet. Laos to Hue tickets must be purchased directly from the bus station, and the journey is not the most comfortable of rides. There are no buses from China that cross into Vietnam - passengers must change buses at the border.

To Vietnam by boat
The main international destination in Vietnam with a regular ferry service is Chau Doc in the Mekong Delta. There are daily high-speed ferries from Phnom Penh along the Mekong River that take 4.5 to 5 hours. You can then get trains to Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

Cruise ships:
Once arriving in Vietnam, there are regular trains to Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Nang and Hai Phong.

River routes:
Walking along the mighty Mekong River from Phnom Penh to Chau Doc is a very special and exciting way to get there.
